This is what we happened accross in Jan 2008. The farmer was on his way to market with animals in his trailer. No one was hurt and the animals survived without major injury but it shows what can and does happen even to experienced drivers. Good training can help reduce the likelihood of this sort of thing - but you must remember that animals are always unpredictable!
Meet Wesley, our 17.2 hand Clydesdale horse. He helps out regularly on our horsebox trailer handling courses. he is always keen to be unloaded and loaded - especially if you have a little something for him!
Of course there is a serious side to this - we can tell you all sorts of things in the classroom but the only way to learn to safely load and unlaod animals is to do it for real. We also use him to show you how to set up the breast and breeching bars properly for the animal's security and control.
Off-road driving isn't always a daytime fun activity. Many professional users have to be able to do it at night too. Believe us it's not as easy as you might think. Everything takes much more time and planning. It is much better to learn in a friendly environment than in difficult conditions.
